About

Patrícia Evangelista

During her university degree in Visual Arts, she had a project titled ‘Painting Without Paint’ in which was a different way to learn new techniques. The theme chosen was related to her everyday life, her mother had a denim factory and she had the idea to use the sewing threads to create her artwork: ‘BETWEEN THE LINES’. Using pink of all shades, green, blue and yellow colours she created her artwork and built suspended paths to represent the coming and going of different cultures.

Her artwork ‘BETWEEN THE LINES’ was for a long time worked as an element of development and the exploration of different cultures and religions; which was something that always inspired her. With that in mind, her first inspiration was the Gypsies – as they read the lines in people’s hand – it was somehow connected to her university artwork in which inspired her for many years. From this point, new thoughts were formed and became graphically flexible for the formal and informal compositions, in which she created her first drawings and figures related to the Egyptian symbology, arising her love for abstract paintings and from which were “extracted” her passion for using vibrant colours.

Patricia translates these interests into her work, classified as impressionism, although she also uses a mixture of figurative and abstract techniques into her artworks. Her paintings aim to represent the transience of light, to capture scenes of everyday life and the natural world in their ever-shifting conditions. Resulting in poetic, abstract, contemporary, emotional and exotic paintings.

Eventually, she brought together two of her greatest passions in life: art and teaching. After participating in several exhibitions in Brazil and Europe, Patricia is currently living, painting and teaching art in London, and after all her hard work, she now owns her art studio: Sfumato Art Studio.
